Rachel Lackey Psychotherapy

Hi, I’m Rachel

My clients are insightful, creative, struggling, determined, self-critical, caring and, like me, they are seeking self improvement. We all have difficulties and strengths. I work with my clients to build up their strengths and tackle their difficulties.

I take really good care of myself, so that I can take great care of my clients, impartially and with acceptance.

If you’re ready for change, let me support you.

I am experienced at working with anxiety, depression and self-criticism and how these relate to relationships past and present, including self-esteem and self care. I also specialise in working with clients transitioning into a new phase of life - perhaps a new job, the start or end of a relationship, adapting to life with children, becoming a carer, living with a medical issue, or retiring. I work with clients to clear away the weeds of the past and find fulfilment.

Outdoor (Bingley & Silsden)

st ives estate and silsden canal - £45

I offer outdoor therapy and ‘walk & talk’ counselling sessions in St. Ives, Bingley and along Silsden Canal. Outdoor work is full of potential for connecting to metaphor, clearing the mind, moving through difficulties and getting in touch with your intuition.

This is a lovely way to work in person and to explore the ways in which nature can soothe and provide meaning. I recently trained with Hayley Marshall - a leader in the field of outdoor therapy.

Click here for more information on this service.

Assessments will usually take place by Zoom or phone, whilst we set hopes and expectations and sign off on risk assessments for outdoor sessions. Outdoor sessions are in daylight hours only.

The St Ives route is wheelchair accessible but can get muddy after rain. For those with limited mobility, there are benches close to parking areas.

Office-based (Keighley)

cavendish business centre - £55

Attend face-to-face therapy in my cosy counselling room in the centre of Keighley.

In addition to talking we can also write, draw and use objects and movement to process your difficulties, explore the past and plan for the future. All of these are completely optional - just whatever feels comfortable and useful to you.

Some clients find that being undisturbed in a room, without the distraction of being at home/work (Zoom sessions) or outside among passers-by (outdoor counselling), they are able to focus more deeply, access their feelings and make greater progress in therapy.

Wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet. Plenty of free parking available across the road. Some free parking available right outside.

Video (Nationwide)

nationwide, online - £45 (£50 after 5pm)

Online sessions can be a great way to work with a therapist who has the specialism and style you need, without having to travel far to see them. Fit therapy into your work or home life by making an hour for yourself during the day, once per week, to focus on your goals.

I use Zoom - an encrypted service recommended by online counselling experts as one of the best ways to protect client confidentiality and data. I use a unique link for each session, which I will email to you.

TESTIMONIALS

“Rachel has been such a wonderful, helpful person throughout the past few months. I had outdoor sessions with her and they were so restorative.

Sometimes I felt I had nothing to say going into the session, but I ended up talking the whole time and felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders each time I went. I couldn't recommend Rachel more.

She's very personable, allows you time to talk and helps you in the right direction. I really enjoyed the creative briefs she suggested and felt like I have made huge progress.”

“I went to Rachel for help a few months ago, it's never easy asking for help, but she made it easy. I'm glad I picked Rachel she was so easy to talk to and never judged me, she has this ability to ask you a question that just makes you really think about things.”

“Returning to work and feeling myself again. Would 100% recommend to anyone I may know struggling like I was.”

“These therapy sessions have helped me immensely over the past few weeks; they have improved my mental and physical health. I am now more comfortable holding conversations and leaving my comfort zone. It has bettered my life.”

What to Expect

How many sessions will I need?

Some clients achieve their goals in 4-6 weeks, many require up to 12 sessions, whilst others will need many months to reach their goals. Click here for more info.

how can I make the most of my time in therapy?

There are lots of things you can do to to enhance your progress in therapy. Click here for some top tips.

how often do i need to attend?

Weekly sessions are recommended, at least to begin with, to allow the ‘therapeutic alliance’ to form. In other words, for your trust in me to become secure and for my understanding of your inner world to be formed. After this, some clients prefer to book fortnightly sessions or even, perhaps whilst transitioning out of therapy after a long period, monthly.

If you decide that you would like to attend less often than weekly, private counselling allows you that flexibility.

When you sign the contract with me there is no expectation that you will attend a particular number of sessions and you can of course decide to leave therapy whenever you are ready.

What happens if i need to cancel a session?

My cancellation policy is that cancellations within 3 days of a booked session incur a £15 charge (unless we can find another mutually convenient time within the same working week). Cancellations within 24 hours of a booked session incur the full fee.

how will i feel after a therapy session?

When you dedicate yourself fully to the process of therapy, it can be painful at times. Some people find that they feel worse before they begin to feel better, as suppressed feelings come to the surface. If it’s a feeling problem (anxiety, sadness, loneliness or anger, for example) you’ve got to feel your way out of it. We will take it at your pace. If you are feeling distressed in a session, I will let you know when we have 5-10 minutes left and ask what you need to be able to face the world once the session has ended, which might include transitioning to a lighter topic, guiding you through a visualisation, or focusing on your strengths.
