About Me

I love my job. My clients are insightful, creative, struggling, determined, self-critical, caring and, like me, they are seeking self improvement. We all have difficulties and strengths. I work with my clients to build up their strengths and tackle their difficulties.

I take really good care of myself, so that I can take great of my clients, impartially and with acceptance.

My Experience & Training

I received my Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy from Leeds Beckett University in 2015 - a British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited course including a minimum of 100 client hours, qualifying me to work as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

Whilst studying, my placements were at Craven College and at Aire Valley Counselling (now AWC Counselling). I have worked at AWC Counselling since 2014 as a freelance counsellor, where I currently see 11 clients per week.

Prior to this I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Interpersonal & Counselling Skills from Leeds Metropolitan University.

Before I became a therapist I was a costume designer and I still enjoy performance, art and dance. I bring creativity to my work as a therapist, whether it is suggesting a new perspective on an old issue, or offering art, sand tray or movement interventions to process difficult relationships and stuck feelings, for clients who would like to work in this way.

I see clients on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings at this location.

Discreet and modern, yet in the heart of town, with easy access to free parking and public transport. The building is accessible, has a lift and wheelchair accessible toilet facilities.

I see clients more flexibly at this location, including some Saturday morning appointments.

I am now offering outdoor therapy sessions in areas of natural beauty near to Silsden and Keighley.

Pricing

Private counselling can seem expensive, especially as sifting through years of difficulties may take some time. I am committed to working with clients to achieve their goals as quickly and sustainably as possible.

What to Expect

How many sessions will I need?

Some clients achieve their goals in 4-6 weeks, many require up to 12 sessions, whilst others will need many months to reach their goals. Click here for more info.

how can I make the most of my time in therapy?

how often do i need to attend?

Weekly sessions are recommended, at least to begin with, to allow the ‘therapeutic alliance’ to form. In other words, for your trust in me to become secure and for my understanding of your inner world to be formed. After this, some clients prefer to book fortnightly sessions or even, perhaps whilst transitioning out of therapy after a long period, monthly.

If you decide that you would like to attend less often than weekly, private counselling allows you that flexibility.

When you sign the contract with me there is no expectation that you will attend a particular number of sessions and you can of course decide to leave therapy whenever you are ready.

What happens if i need to cancel a session?

My cancellation policy is that cancellations within 6 days of a booked session incur a £15 charge (unless we can find another mutually convenient time within the same working week). Cancellations within 24 hours of a booked session incur the full fee.

how will i feel after a therapy session?

When you dedicate yourself fully to the process of therapy, it can be painful at times. Some people find that they feel worse before they begin to feel better, as suppressed feelings come to the surface. If it’s a feeling problem (anxiety, sadness, loneliness or anger, for example) you’ve got to feel your way out of it. We will take it at your pace. If you are feeling distressed in a session, I will let you know when we have 5-10 minutes left and ask what you need to be able to face the world once the session has ended, which might include transitioning to a lighter topic, guiding you through a visualisation, or focusing on your strengths.
